Literacy

The Albany Altrusa club does several projects throughout the year to promote literacy within the community.

Meals on Wheels recipients in Linn and Benton County choose books based on their interests once per quarter to be delivered with their meals.

Little Red Bookshelves throughout Albany are filled with books for children of all ages to read or to take home with them.

Dr. Seuss’ birthday is celebrated by handing out books to local children at local elementary schools. Classrooms participate in a reading contest to win a pizza party.

Children receive books instead of candy during Albany’s downtown Halloween celebration. Altrusa members dress up in Halloween costumes and hand out free books to children participating in the trick-or-treating event.
