Altrusa is an international non-profit organization making our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service.
Our club offers an opportunity to make a real difference in Longview-Kelso, Washington. We undertake a variety of service, literacy, fundraising and international projects each year.
We are always seeking new volunteers to join our organization and make a difference. Our members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.
Support our projects financially. Donations are tax deductible.
Over 1,000 books were recently donated to Altrusa International of Longview-Kelso and our members have prepared hundreds of them for distribution. Nearly 100 books and Valentine’s Day cards were given to children in our Backpack Buddies program which sends easy-to-make foods home to help prevent hunger over the weekend.
Approximately 60 used books have been given to transitional kindergarten classes in addition to the new books already purchased by our club with literacy grant funding. Another 20 used books were received by children in Lower Columbia CAP’s Home Again program, which helps to safely house families escaping domestic violence. Additionally, we have donated 550 books to the Emergency Support Shelter where they will set up a small sharing library for the children. Community House on Broadway accepted 60 books to give out to their young residents. Altrusa will continue working to find young readers to receive the remaining books and our members look forward to many more book cleaning parties!
