Mission Statement

Altrusa of Nanaimo is a service organization of people who through leadership, fellowship and volunteering, provide programs and funding to improve the quality of life in their community. With a focus on woman, children and literacy, members enjoy hands-on involvement in on-going projects and activities.

Projects and Activities

  • In partnership with Haven House for women and children in crisis, provide ongoing assistance in different areas.

  • Make and deliver Personal Care Bags for women in crisis.

  • Bake muffins for local schools for our Feed-A-Reader program.

  • Assist Rotary with their annual used book sale.

  • Provide Library Delivery Services for shut-ins, in conjunction with Vancouver Island Regional Library.

  • Support Nanaimo/Ladysmith School Foundation with funding for bursaries; literacy, summer school and emergency school programs.

  • Provide financial assistance for youths for job-training, education or life coping skills.

  • Project Re-Entry - provide funding to enable individuals to train or upgrade their skills and re-enter the workforce.


Project Re-Entry provides emergency financial assistance to individuals who are upgrading their skills or retraining, so that they may enter the workforce and provide a better life for their family. 

Project Re-Entery is one of Altrusa Nanaimo's most important service projects. Recipients of this fund have gone on to careers in nursing, long term care, trades and business, and/or they have enrolled in college courses. A one time amount of up to $1,000 dollars is available.
