Activities & Projects

  • ŸCelebration of Literacy is a two-week community event that promotes the importance of reading
  • Ÿ The Durst Book Room is used for preparing thousands of book donations to schools and non-profit organizations annually
  • Ÿ Project ASK (Altrusa Serving Kids) provides enrichment grants for schools to cover things no longer in the budget
  • Ÿ ASTRA Clubs provide high school and college aged students with leadership growth and community service experience
  • Ÿ Scholarships and financial awards for High School Seniors, Career & Technical Students, and ASTRA members
  • ŸA Directory of Foreign and Sign Language Interpreters is made available to hospitals and emergency responders
  • Ÿ Sister Club with Altrusa Club Christchurch, New Zealand
  • Ÿ Provide “Altrusa Bags for Children”, a duffle for the personal belongings of children removed from their homes by family services
  • Ÿ We Partner and Participate in community activities including the Festival of Trees, Parades, Camp Millennium Pumpkin Patch, and Salvation Army Dress a Child & Bell Ringing
  • Ÿ Short-term Service Projects are conducted based on the needs of community and have included providing supplies, furniture and equipment to Casa de Belen (for homeless teens), the Family Development Center and a visitation room at the Department of Human Services.

Fundraisers

  • "Baubles, Bangles and Beads Jewelry Sale - Re-purposed jewelry in all price ranges. Earrings,rings, necklaces, bracelets and more!"
  • "Applebee's Pancake Feed –  Juice, sausage, pancakes and drinks. Not to mention fun!"
  • Durst Book Room Sales - A large selection of used fiction and non-fiction books are sold to the public at quarterly sales.
