Altrusa Celebrates 94th Birthday

The Altrusa International Club of Corvallis hosted a birthday party on April 11 celebrating the founding of Altrusa! Altrusa International started in Nashville, Tennessee on April 11, 1917. Corvallis hosted the event at the Corvallis Country Club for members from the Yaquina Bay (Newport), Albany, Lebanon and Salem Clubs, as well as members from the Corvallis Club. Greetings from President Bettina Schempf, dinner, birthday cake, sharing from clubs on their service & fund raising projects, and an auction to raise funds for the Altrusa International Foundation were part of the festivities. A highlight of the evening was a skit depicting the past, present and future of Altrusa written by Evelyne Hendrix. Corvallis club members held signs as they modeled to show the different eras of Altrusa, while Janet Magedanz played music of the periods and Tammy Skubinna narrated. Co-Chairs of the event were Evelyne Hendrix and Helen Hansen.
