The club continues on its mission to care for its community, its children and its needs. Unfortunately our members have dwindled to 28 over the past yer but the energy and dedication to service remains at a high level. We welcome members of the Nanaimo club to our Annual retreat last September and look forward to sharing hostess duties with them at the 2015 District Conference. Last year also saw the reappearance of a bi-monthly newsletter which has served to keep members informed of club activities.
We continue to support over 20 community organisations's programs, including the Women's Center, the Salvation Army, Adult Care Society's Day Care center and Music program, our local Hospice, Victims services with Trauma Bears, Search & Rescue, Meals on Wheels, the local Head Injury Society and our Parks & Recreation Summer Programs for underprivileged children.
Our "Make a Difference Day project last year involved the donation of books to the Library in the new Transition housing complex (Rose Harbor). This year the focus will shift to assisting in a Habitat for Humanity initiative.
These have been an ongoing focus for the club with Bursaries awarded at both High School and College levels. In addition we have literacy projects, Family Literacy Day, Reading in Schools and Reading to the Elderly.
Our Annual Movie Event last November filled the local Theater as we celebrated "Grease". This year we will feature Mary Poppins. We filled orders for the Christmas Swags, and finalized the sale of our Afghan stock. We were also fortunate to maintain significant funds from the providence of British Columbia. Our club was honored to receive $500 dollars from the Altrusa International Foundation. This grant was used to fund supplies to a School in Jamaica.
